I picked up this set and had serious reservations about it. But, based on Moondrop's pedigree and the fact that it was a huge 100mm planar magnetic driver, I couldn't help myself. As a newer audio enthusiast, this was a huge leap of faith. I had never spent this amount of money on anything in the audio world other than my KEF speakers. And those were SPEAKERS!!! Well, let me tell you, so are THESE! You're not going to mall-walk with these babies on. Plus they are open back, so there's that too. lol. But you won't want too. Your just going to want to sit at your favorite desk, or in your favorite chair, with your phone or DAP (and if you are using a phone a dac/amp is absolutely required to power these properly), and just chill out. Now when I say "chill out" what I mean is really listen to your music - I mean really listen. The Venus is going to demand your attention by pulling details out of tracks that you've never heard, or never heard with such clarity. It is a neutral, yet very energetic presentation. ie. perfect for serious listening. But don't try to do anything else, because the Venus will keep pulling you away from whatever else it is you're trying to concentrate on. It has tight, controlled bass, clear and present mids and beautifully extended treble with all the detail retrieval you can handle. The soundstage, while not being huge, still makes you feel like you are in a room listening to speakers, instead of having them 1.5 inches from your ear. And this is NOT a basshead set. I mean I am a bass head, and I love them, but they will not give you the response that a dynamic driver closed-back set will. And that is just fine. This is my reference set, and I am so happy I took the leap and bought it. Bravo Moondrop!
